Unbeknownst the Forerunners, humanity’s war of aggression was actually an attempt at controlling a virulent infection brought on by a parasite known as the Flood.
Some humans, however, specifically high ranking military officers and intelligentsia, were converted into digital beings with machines known as Composers. As punishment for their crimes, humanity was stripped of its technology and forcibly de-evolved back to a primitive state and isolated on Erde-Tyrene, or ancient Earth. For nearly 1,000 years the two societies fought until humanity was defeated on their last fortress world of Charum Hakkor.
Tensions between humans and Forerunners ran high and eventually war between the species broke out after human vessels decimated Forerunners worlds seemingly unprovoked. One of the most challenging enemies faced by the Didact and his forces were ancient humanity, then a highly advanced society with technology to rival the Forerunners. A Forerunner known as Shadow-of-Sundered-Star, more widely known as the Didact, led the Prometheans. A rate (class) of Forerunners known as the Warrior-Servants were the enforcers of Forerunner law with the Promethean group being the most powerful and respected. The Forerunners pledged themselves to the Mantle of Responsibility, a doctrine holding that the task of guiding the development of all life in the galaxy belonged to the most evolved and capable species. 100,000 years before Halo: Combat Evolved, the galaxy was dominated by an alien race known as the Forerunners. To understand the Prometheans of Halo 4 and Halo 5, it is important to remember where the term “Promethean” comes from. “ Oh, but what I would not give to have even a single company of Prometheans here right now… oh, they would most certainly restore order with their trademark lethality…“ 343 Guilty Spark This is something that needs resolution and simply tossing the Prometheans in the void just doesn’t fly to me. Worse still, they seemingly are aware of this fact judging by the behavior of the trapped Knight in Halo 5. I’ll explain more in the quick recap about the Prometheans that will follow, but there are living beings trapped within the Knight constructs. In terms of narrative, the Prometheans have a plot thread that has yet to be resolved.

However, I will offer an idea on how to perhaps put them more in line with Infinite’s approach while still respecting the tragic nature of their creation. Given their origin from the diseased mind of the Didact, that made perfect sense. They were organic looking, living in a sense. But the Prometheans had that aspect of not looking quite right. Nothing wrong with the sharp angles, spires, monoliths, and weathered aesthetics of the Forerunners from Bungie’s day.

Anyone with actual experience making games is free to say whether they’d work or not. There were issues, but I’ll propose a couple of ideas I’d suggest to improve them.
Side note, I’m not an expert on gameplay, but after years of the same kind of dynamics the Covenant provided, the Prometheans new tactics felt like a breath of fresh air. In terms of gameplay, I feel the Prometheans, with tweaks, offer unique gameplay challenges that enrich the battles players can have.I argue that the Prometheans should continue to have a role in Halo and will focus on three areas. It may not be chilling news for a lot of people, most times it seems fans have a give it or take it attitude about whether the Prometheans should be around to begin with. Halo fan and Twitter user Crisperstorm has even kept count and on march 6th we reached 1000 days since Infinite’s reveal without any real news of the Prometheans possible presence. Personally, I disagree with all three charges, but the Prometheans have been conspicuously absent whenever news about Infinite drops. A lot of people felt they were out of place in terms of design, frustrating to fight, and fairly uninteresting in terms of their place in the narrative. Now, I understand the Prometheans are a controversial subject within the fandom. One thing that has been on the minds of fans over the years since Halo 5 released is what the future holds for the Prometheans. Many are prepared to take the fight to the Banished on Zeta Halo and uncover the mystery of the UNSC’s defeat at the installation. A lot has happened since then so I apologize for such a long absence.Īnyway, Halo Infinite is quickly coming upon us.
